If you are a regular visitor to the Costa del Sol, here's a question for you: have you ever visited the interior of Malaga province? This region is the smallest province in Andalucia, but it is bursting with towering peaks in sierras and serranias and pretty pueblos blancos, offering great walks, superb bird-watching and the chance to experience the "real Spain". Think of hillside villages with narrow streets and blooming balconies such as Gaucin, Frigiliana and Cartama; natural wonders like El Torcal and El Chorro; or impressive, historic towns like Ronda and Antequera. Spectacular settings for horse-riding, cycling and caving, with delicious local dishes like milk-fed lamb and sweet Malageño wines to feast on after a day's adrenalin-charged activities.
The provincial government of Malaga has set up a new initiative to bring to people's attentions the delights of the interior of the province, which has never managed to escape the shadow of its more famous coastal neighhbour. The spotlight will move from the pretty, popular beaches to the wild, unexplored mountains. More and more hotels and restaurants are opening up in Malaga province - there's been a rise of 43% in recent times - but they need to bring in custom, and why not from close at hand?
A new bus, called BUS VITA, will travel around promoting the nine districts of Malaga province, namely:
Antequera; Axarquía-Costa del Sol; Guadalteba; Nororma; Serranía de Ronda; Sierra de las Nieves; Valle del Guadalhorce; Málaga Costa del Sol (Montes de Málaga) and Costa del Sol Occidental.
The BUS VITA will have a mini-cinema for video presentations, so that people in all part of Malaga's coast can get a taste of the many towns and landscapes within as little as half an hour's drive from the coast. VITA stands from Verde, Interior, and Turismo Activo.
At ferias and and fiestas around Malaga, the bus will be displaying all the varied historical and natural offerings which await you when you venture away from the Mediterranean and climb the windy mountain roads iand explore the rustic corners and spectacular scenery of deep Malaga.
