The port of Malaga is one of the top 50 most-visited cruise ports in the world, according to new figures.
Malaga comes in at number 44 in the list of the ports which receive the largest number of visiting cruise ship passengers. This is especially good news with the recent opening of the glamorous Muelle Uno shopping and restaurant waterfront development at Malaga cruise port just over a year ago, which represented a major investment (80 million euro) by the Malaga Port Authority. Malaga is currently Andalucia's main cruise port, with Seville's river harbour receiving smaller passenger vessels.
Other Spanish ports in the list are Barcelona at number 5, followed by three island destinations: Balearics at number 12, with Canary Island destinations Santa Cruz de Tenerife at number 24 and Las Palmas at 28.
In total 7.5 million cruise passengers passed through Spanish ports in 2011, the latest year for which figures are available.
The port also received earlier this month the Quality Service Certificate for Cruise Traffic, the first Spanish port to win this accolade. And in December 2012, the Port was awarded ISO 14001, the internationally recognised standard for environmental management of businesses, including energy consumption and the handling and treatment of waste.
