Last Christmas, the Ayuntamiento (city council) of Seville put on a light show, where fast-moving images are projected onto the back wall of its main building, in Plaza Nueva.
The facade facing Plaza San Francisco comes alive with ships, the solar system, books and toys - and, of course, the Holy Family. This year it's sponsored by Movistar (which has a budget for these things) and so the theme is, unsurprisingly, communication.
It's incredibly impressive, seeing this video shown on a massive facade full of architectural detail - the projections are designed to fit every corner and window of the building minutely. If you saw the projections onto Buckingham Palace for the Jubilee this year, that will give you some idea, although obviously this is on a smaller scale.
Top moments: the Reyes Magos (Magi) on their camels, and the snow - yes, it really does snow in Sevilla, with flakes lodging on the audience's clothes and hair!
One of the great things about this is that it's free, so everyone comes along to watch - from children to the elderly, and everyone is overcome with a sense of wonderment - my friend's three-year-old son asked her, "Is it magic?"
Mapping Sevilla is on until the end of December, Monday to Thursday 7pm, 8pm, 9pm, and Friday to Sunday at the same times plus a 10pm showing.
