Segway Tours

These two-wheeled upright electric vehicles. If you have never ridden one you will be surprised how quickly you can master the Segway. You simply stand on them and hold the handles of the vertical column to steer. Standing still on the spot requires a little more practice.

Patios Festival

Every Spring, the town of El Puerto de Santa Maria, blooms into bursts of colour. El Puerto de Santa Maria began its Fiesta de Los Patios around the year 2000. The "Association of Friends of the Patios of El Puerto de Santa Maria" (Asociación de los Amigos de los Patios Portuenses) sponsors a type of "open-house".

Bus from El Puerto de Santa Maria to other towns stop on the main N-340 road just outside the train station. it is not a bus staton as such, just a bus stop.

Complejo Endorreico del Puerto de Santa Maria Natural Reserve

Inland near El Puerto de Santa María are a series of three freshwater lakes: Salada, Chica and Juncosa. Salada is the largest, covering an area of 36ha. They are fed mainly by rainwater, which means that in times of drought they can dry out and leave a bed of crusted salt, although the Salada is the least likely to dry out completely. The whole reserve (including a core area of 63ha of the lakes) covers an area of 291ha.

Art Galleries

Art exhibitions and other cultural activities take place at the Centro Cultural Alfonso X El Sabio. Calle Larga 89. Tel. 956 541 987. Open Monday to Friday 11.00 to 14.00 and 18.00 to 22.00. A collection of Visigothic artefacts found in southern Spain and Portugal, as well as ceramics from the 16th and 17th centuries, are exhibited in the Sala Museo el Hospitalito.

Bahía de Cadiz Natural Park

Encompassing a 10,522ha flat landscape of sandy beaches, marshes, salt pans, freshwater lakes and tidal inlets, as well as the two natural areas of Isla del Trocadero and the Marismas de Sancti Petri, the Cadiz Bay supports a surprising wealth of wildlife, given the built-up areas that are in and around it, which make up a population of around 400,000.

Golf

Golfing in Puerto de Santa Maria may be slightly different to other places in Andalucia just because it might be a more tranquil 18 holes. The Costa Ballena Golf course for example is relatively unknown, at least compared to Golf Courses on the Costa del Sol in more touristic places such as Marbella.

Boat & Ferry Rides

Some companies offer luxury yacht and boat hire, a luxury sailing concierge, who can arrange almost everything from sunset cruises with fine dining to trips to Morocco and Portugal. All in all it's great to see Andalucia from the sea.

Aqualand: Bahia de Cadiz

Nine rides in this park in El Puerto de Santa Maria near Cadiz, including the Cola del Diablo black hole, and super-steep Banzai. Wavepool. Sea lions. Minipark and water play area for little ones. Restaurants with pasta, pizza, burgers, sandwiches and hot dogs.

El Puerto de Santa María Beaches

To the east of the Rota American naval base is the town of El Puerto Santa María which is well known for its sherry, cobbled streets and typical Andaluz architecture. The first beach to the east of the naval base is Playa de Fuentebravía. The golden, sandy beach is 1.6km long with a width of 30m and is backed by the Fuentabravía residential area.

Like so many towns in Andalucía the approach to El Puerto de Santa María along the main road is lined with garages, industrial plants and run down buildings. Keep going and cross the River Guadalete on the NIV (if coming from south) and turn into Calle Ribiera de los Mariscos and park in one of the car parks signposted.
