El Puerto de la Ragua (Ragua Pass) at 2.000m has been a well travel route for both visitors and merchants for many years, and is best known as the Puerto de la Ragua Cross-Country Ski Station. The location offers different sports and leisure activities all year round, and also offers the possibility to get to know the highest mountains in the entire Iberian peninsula
It is located at the summit of the only vehicle crossing of the Sierra Nevada park on the A-337 road.
Puerto de la Ragua Cross-Country Ski Station
The is a often forgotten cross country winter ski station here. Duarfed by popular Sierra Nevada Ski resort. Since it is not at the same altitude, snow can not be guarenteed all winter. Howwver it does serve to correct those that say Sierra Nevada Ski resort in (Monochil / Pradollano) near is the omly ski resort in Andalucia.
Mountain Refuge
Refugio-Vivac El Toril located 1 km east of the 2,000m Puerto de la Ragua pass and cross country ski station, on the A-337 country road that crosses the Sierra Nevada National Park between La Calahorra (north) to Laroles (south). 3 rooms (salon, bed, kitchen). Not to be confused with slate Refugio del Chulo on Sendero 'Collado Prados Altas nearby in very poor condition.

The neighbouring villages to El Puerto de la Ragua are Laroles and Bayacal to the south on the borders of Granada and Almeria Provinces and La Calahorra, Ferreira and Aldeire to the north in Granada province.
Open
The countryside is open all the time. The pass is open excep ovccasionally after a lage snow fall. The Ski Station with cafe and shop (Officially called Consorcio Estacion Recreativa Puerto de la Ragua)is generally open from 09.00 to 17.30 in the summer and in the winter when it is snow covered.
