Estepona Choir - Coral Magnum Mysteruim

The Coral Magnum Mysteruim is the name of the Estepona town choir. The choir typically performs several traditional concert in Estepona each year, including a Christmas and summer concert, in the parish church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen and more recently in the Auditorum of the Mirador del Carmen. Its musical director is Miguel Ángel Garrido Sánchez professor at the Manuel Carras professional conservatory in Malaga.

The choir has given concerts in various cities throughout Spain and has participated in international competitions, exchanges and meetings. It has won the 2011 Torre Almenara prize and was awarded the "Esteponero del Año 2012" prize by the Rotary International Club.

History

The Magnum Mysterium Choir was founded in 1987 and originally called Villa de Estepona. In its beginnings it was a chamber choir dedicated to the study and performance of Spanish and European coral music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. It has been incorporating into its repertoire works of all styles and from all times, from music from Eastern countries, Sephardic songs and popular titles to film music, musicals and scores by contemporary composers. In 1992, the Choir was constituted as a non-profit Cultural Association with the aim of promoting the study and practice of quality polyphonic choral music.

Concerts

The Mirador del Carmen will hosted the traditional Sacred Music Concert of the Magnum Mysterium Choir for Semana Santa 2024. It took place on Saturday 23 March 2024 at 20.00 hrs and began with 'Ave María' by Miguel Asins Arbó, conducted by Miguel Ángel Garrido Sánchez. Admission was free. This concert was so popular that the auditorium was filled to capacity.
