Estepona - Torre de Saladavieja

Torre de Saladavieja

Torre de Saladavieja

Torre de Saladavieja

This unusual tower is signposted on the southern extremity of Estepona. Turn off the coast road road just west of the entrance to the Marina oposite the mirador over Playa del Cristo and go up the incline into the urbanisation.

The tower has been incorporated into the development as a natural traffic roundabout. The curious thing about the Torre de Saladavieja (The Old Salt tower) is that although it is round, it is built on a square base. It is probable that the base is the remains of a Moorish tower, possibly destroyed by the Christians, who later replaced it with their own round tower, using the existing foundations.
