A popular, course with a challenging layout, particularly when windy. In contrast with larger, more manicured courses, the natural appearance is maintained with wild flora and fauna still much in evidence just off the fairways.

The signature hole is the third, a very long par-5 known as "The Ski Slope", though the difficulties lie more in club selection when assessing ground relief. Greens are of good quality, well-designed and interesting to play.

Estepona has invested to improve course drainage as the high clay content of the terrain is noticeable on rainy days.

Estepona Golf Course is one of the  popular golf courses along Estepona’s Costa del Sol, otherwise known as the Costa del Golf. It is a well-established course designed by José Luis López, which opened in 1989 but is undergoing a new lease of life since the Golf course was purchased in 2023 by Spanish businessman Juan José Hidalgo.

Hidalgo aims to build on the course's positive reputation, which has seen generations of golf players enjoy  the  18-hole course and spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Sierra Bermeja mountain from almost every tee. The new owner plans to incorporate Estepona Golf Course into a major residential, tourist, and sports development on land that is part of one of the Arroyo Vaquero farms in the area.

Meanwhile, the 18-hole par 71, 5,546-metre golf course, while not one for the major golfing competitions that neighbouring courses such as Finca Cortesín or Valderrama can offer, is still a challenging course for players of all levels. It is particularly suited for golf players who want to enjoy a pleasant round of golf on well-maintained greens and wide fairways, allowing players to perfect their style. And it is a perfect course for beginners. The hilly course is surrounded by natural vegetation such as palm, eucalyptus, and olive trees.

The course has an spacious Clubhouse with large café terrace overlooking the course.   Buggies, and trolleys are for hire, and offers the rental of golf clubs and accessories, making it easy for tourists to travel without the burden or cost of bringing their own golf clubs.

Estepona Golf Course is approximately 10 minutes by car from Estepona Port along the A-7. Take the exit at the Rotonda de Las Hormigas (Roundabout of the Ants—given its name due to the large metal and structures featured in the roundabout) opposite Estepona Hotel and Spa and follow the signs. The road close to the course is narrow with lots of corners, so care should be taken when driving.
