Puerto Banus

Puerto Banus is located in the Nueva Andalucia suburb of Marbella, 6km to the west of the town centre, just before you reach the small town of San Pedro de Alcantara. Although it may at first appear as a developed old Spanish fishing village with an impressive mountain backdrop, Puerto Banus was in fact designed and built in 1970 by local property developer José Banús as a luxury marina and shopping complex.

History of Puerto Banús

Although Puerto Banús marina maintains the illusion of being a developed old Spanish fishing village, the complex was in fact designed and built in 1970. The tourist complex comprising the marina and shopping district, together with the large residential area Nueva Andalucía, were all the vision of property developer José Banús (indeed, its full name is Puerto José Banús)

Marbella Ironman 70.3

The inaugural Marbella Ironman 70.3 took place on Sunday 28th April 2018. The race has taken place every year since then except 2020. The race always takes place on a Sunday in Spring or Autumn but the date varies.

La Habana de Hemingway

La Habana de Hemingway is a cocktail bar with lively disco dance floor in Puerto Banus. Themed on the Hemingway although little resemblance to La Bodeguita del Medio. It is in a good location at the east side of the port with a terrace and a little space around in front of the front line.

Mirage

Mirage is located on Calle Gray D'Albion in front of the old Torre del Duque on the roundabout at the main entrance to Puerto Banus at the end of Cale José Banus. The club opened on the 28th April 2017 for its first summer season and offers great music, atmosphere, and an unparalleled looking venue.

Bijou Banus

Bijou Banus is located on the second line a few doors along from Linekers. Opened in march 2016, it is part of the same group. Bijous Banus has a large open terrace with full waiter /waitress service. Bijou Banus has a resident DJ, bringing the up to the minute tunes. The club also has invited celebrity DJs.

News Cafe

News Café is one of the trendy bars in Puerto Banus. Located on the front line it has many celebrity fans. It has a terrace on the port level and another on the first floor level. Music is a mix of funk and rock and blues. Great music, Djs and vibe for dancing on the rooftop terrace. Great Djs News Café can be very crowded during the summer months.

Puerto Banus Tourist office

Puerto Banus tourist office is located near the marina in Plaza Antonio Banderas. It is a modern looking building opposite McDonalds on the corner of Avenida de Julio Iglesias and Calle Jos'e Saramango. It is open every day.

Districts

On the beach side of the N340 coast road, between the Rio Guadaliza and the Rio Verde, are several districts of Puerto Banus. Azalea Beach is the name of the modern macro-community of a dozen or so communities that were established on this land in the late 1990s and early 2000s. It is bounded to the west by the Rio Guadaliza and to the east by Calle Ventura del Mar.

Restaurants in Puerto Banús

Puerto Banus has plenty of restaurants to choose from, mainly located around the marina, offering a fantastic location to enjoy your meal whilst looking out over the Mediterranean and admiring the luxury yachts. Don't expect restaurants in Puerto Banus to be cheap, although do expect some good quality food and drink, as it has everything from exquisite fine dining to local authentic Spanish cuisine.

Things to do

If sitting with a drink in the marina people-watching isn't enough, why not try something else in Puerto Banús. Boat Trip, for those that don't fancy taking the bus back to Marbella, or simply want to see the Costa del Sol from the sea, why not take a boat trip to Marbella? A boat leaves hourly from Puerto Banus marina on a 30 minute trip to Marbella, or a one-hour round trip.

Things to See

Puerto Banús marina is without doubt the main sight of this town. With space for over 900 boats, this is where the rich and famous, including the King of Saudi Arabia, moor their impressive yachts. Many of these boats don't leave the marina and are simply used as 'holiday homes'. Along the marina you will also see plenty of luxury sports cars being driven, or simply paraded, by their owners alongside the numerous designer boutiques.
