Via Verde - lead mines
On this greenway, Minas del Plomo (Lead Mines), you can explore Linares’ mining past. The route is 11 kilometres long and runs between the town of Linares and Los Salidos de Linares mine. The route is accessible on foot, by bike and by horse. One section of the route, the part which runs from Ermita de la Virgen de Linarejos chapel to Restauración well (4.5km), is also accessible in a wheelchair.
Before going on the greenway, we recommend a visit to the Centro de Interpretación del Paisaje Minero y la Metalurgia in Linares, where you can learn about the mining industry in this region. The Centre is located on the loading platform of Linares’ Estación de Madrid. Using the museum’s models and audiovisual resources, you’ll be taken on a journey through the town’s mining history in all its industrial splendour. You can also take a walk through the streets of Linares and admire its historic religious and civil monuments.
As well as the rich mining heritage, the Minas del Plomo greenway offers wonderful views of the olive tree-lined hills of Linares. You can also explore the ruins of the Romano-Iberian city of Cástulo, which is one of the most important archaeological sites in Europe.
