What to do in Gibraltar

Gibraltar has plenty to offer for its more energetic visitors. The Rock is being promoted as an international yachting centre. There are already three major marinas to meet the needs of virtually every pleasure craft imaginable. The most modern marina is at Queensway Quay with 121 berths. The two other marinas are at Marina Bay and Waterport.

There are three established diving schools on the Rock. They cater for beginners and the experienced diver. They can also supply you with equipment. Around Gibraltar there are reefs, pinnacles plus over 30 wrecks to explore.

The meeting of the waters of the Atlantic and Mediterranean make Gibraltar an exciting location for anglers. You can book a fishing trip from the various marinas. There are good fighting fish to be had like the Conger eel or tasty Bream of which there are 14 species in the Straits.

You can windsurf in the waters around the Rock. Also, about 40 minutes by car from Gibraltar is Tarifa - on Spain's Atlantic coast. Tarifa, apart from being a charming town-port, is touted as Europe's windsurfing capital.

You'll see lots of golfers unloading their gear at Gibraltar airport yet the Rock doesn't have a golf course. Many golfers opt to stay in Gibraltar and venture into nearby Spain where there are several good golf courses just a short drive away. These include Valderama - home of the 1997 Ryder Cup and World Golf Championships.

Gibraltar is also a good place from which to take an organised trip across the straits to nearby Tangier in Morocco including guided tour of the local places of interest, lunch and time to explore the souk, 2 days tours are also available.
