Piers Berrington wins the first of three 'swings' of the Winter Tour - Marbella Golf Series 2023-2024

Piers Berrington, UK professional and frequent Costa del Sol golfer has won the first of three 'swings' of the Winter Tour - Marbella Golf Series 2023-2024. The first swing consists of three tournament events of three days each at San Roque New Course, Santa Clara Golf Marbella and Chaparral Golf Club in December 2023.

We interviewed Piers at San Roque the week before the tournament and he was "optimistic about my current performances and hoping to secure invitations to the Challenge Tour". Winning the first swing earned Piers two Challenge Tour invitations.

In the first tournament in San Roque, Piers finished 6th in the 29-strong field with a one-over-par 217, 8 shots behind winner Alexander Wennstam. Piers won the tournament at Santa Clara with a nine-under-par 204. In the third tournament at Chaparral, Piers finished third with a five-under-par 211, seven shots behind winner DongWon Kim. It is all about consistency, in the Winter Tour Order of Merit (after the first swing) Piers has 2400 points ahead of Alexander on 2000 points.

Swing two will be played at:
15th to 17th January 2024 at Flamingos Golf - Villa Padierna,
19th to 21st January 2024 at Alferini Golf- Villa Padierna,
23rd to 25th January 2024 at Los Arqueros Golf & Country Club,
29th to 31st January 2024 at Real Guadalhorce Golf Club.

Swing three will be played at:
5th to 7th February 2024 at San Roque New Course,
12th to 14th February 2024 at Los Lagos - Mijas Golf,
19th to 21st February 2024 at La Cañada Golf Club.

The players of the circuit may be either professionals or amateurs who belong to a legal golf federation that justifies their handicap or professional license. More info at wintertourmarbella.com.

Santander Pro Ladies Spanish Championship 2023

Nuria Iturrioz wins the Santander Pro Ladies Spanish Championship 2023 at Lauro Golf at -6. Heading into Friday's final round, María Parra (-4) and Nuria Iturrioz (-3) were several strokes clear of the others after carding the best rounds of 69 (-3) on Thursday. After day two, Nuria Iturrioz (-3) said she wanted to win the Santander Spanish Women's Professional Championship "yes or yes, and if it's not this year, next year". She didn't have to wait that long, as on Friday she emerged victorious from a fierce duel with María Parra (-5), the worthy runner-up. More >

ADITI ASHOK, CHAMPION OF THE ANDALUCÍA COSTA DEL SOL OPEN DE ESPAÑA

The winners of the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España 2023 was Aditi Ashok from India. Aditi Ashok achieved the feat based patience. Her scorecard was 69, 68, 68 and 66 which more than neutralized the fierce competition of the Dutch Anne Van Dam and the Spanish Ana Pelaez. More >

Andalucia Masters 2023, Sotogrande - 19th to 22 October 2023

Winner Adrian Meronk from Poland wanted to make the headlines after not being picked for the European Ryder Cup team. At Real Club de Golf Sotogrande he did just that, by reaching 16 under par after posting a sublime six under par final round of 66 to secure his third victory on the 2023 Race to Dubai. He finished one stroke clear of overnight co-leader Matti Schmid, whose title charge fell away after bogeying the par four 16th. More>

Sunday score Europe 6 & USA 6 - Tournament Score Europe 14 & USA 14 - A draw, Europe as holders retain the Solheim Cup.

Europe retain the Solheim Cup in a close finish at Finca Cortesin, Casares, Costa del Sol - The securing putt was placed by Carlota Ciganda, 33 yrs from Pamplona, on the 17th Hole. Scoring birdies on the 16th and 17th placed her 2-up in her final match. Carlota's match point raised Europe from trailing to a draw.

Carlota Ciganda birdie putt on the 16th hole and her tee shot on the 17th hole, which left the ball an inch from the flag, set up another birdie to take Carlota's match two up and effectively secure the title.

Saturday Day  2 result : USA 8 EUROPE 8

Europe and US 8-8 with Sunday's singles still to play at Finca Cortesin. It has been a turnaround by Europe, who lost the opening session 4-0 on Friday but bounced back in the afternoon to trail 5-3 and then finished Saturday 8-8 equal.

With 5-7 on the scoreboard, the afternoon session began, a vital moment to define expectations for the sunday final round of twelve individual matches. The atmosphere was heating up, the ‘sorpaso’ was palpable in the air, a European initiative that, after a day and a half played, became a reality when Ciganda made a spectacular birdie on the 6th hole, also very well celebrated by her partner Linn Grant.

Saturday Morning Foursomes : USA 2 EUROPE 2

The morning part of the second (day) foresomes round of the Solheim Cup lead to two victories for each team. On the European side, Carlota Ciganda has won again, this time alongside Emily Kristine Pedersen, as well as the Swedish couple formed by Linn Grant and Maja Stark.

Friday afternoon, The European team recovered part of what was lost in the morning, to place the score at 3-5 at the start of the tournament being played at the Finca Cortesin course in Malaga.

Friday Morning Foursomes : USA 4 EUROPE 0

The USA team gained a notable advantage by winning the four matches that opened the 2023 Solheim Cup. The United States took a big lead at the start of the competition, 4-0 on the scoreboard.

Solheim Cup, the ladies Ryder Cup has started.

Europe and the United States face each other from Friday to Sunday at Finca Cortesin.

On October 13, 2020, almost three years ago, the Ladies European Tour officially announced that Spain would host the 2023 Solheim Cup at the Finca Cortesin course in Casares, Malaga. At that time the exact date of celebration was still to be determined, which would be announced shortly after, September 22 to 24, 2023, the beginning of an exciting journey that has led to a throbbing reality.

Determined support from the whole of Spanish golf and the institutions that surround it have finally converged on the spectacular tee of hole 1 of Finca Cortesín, the starting point of the most important women's golf duel in the world between the teams from Europe and the United States.

At 8:10 hrs the first pairs match between the Swedes Maja Stark - Linn Grant and the Americans Lexi Thompson - Meghan Khang- teed off watched by enthuastic spectators , from the strategically located grandstand at the beginning of the course.

Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucia Masters 2023 to be held in Real Club de Golf Sotogrande

The DP World Tour has added the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucia Masters to the end of the 2023 tour. The Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucia Masters moves to a new venue at Real Club de Golf Sotogrande and will be played 10 to 22 Octovbr 2023 the week after the acciona Open de Espana in Madrid. The prize purse in Sotogrande is $3.25 million.

This event is sually held at Valderrama, however Valderrama ended its long-running deal with the DP World Tour after becoming unhappy with the quality of field being assembled at the Andalucia Masters. The October 2022 event won by Adrian Otaegui was the last to be held in Valderrama which hosted a LIV tour event in June 2023.

The DP World Tour were keen to keep the event alive though, and the Andalucia Masters has now moved from Valderrama to Real Club de Golf Sotogrande.

LIV GOLF Valderrama tournament renamed LIV GOLF Andalucia

On the eve of the LIV Golf tournament in Valderrama, LIV Golf and the Consejería de Turismo, Cultura y Deporte de la Junta de Andalucía announced a multi-year agreement through which the event will bear the name "LIV Golf Andalucía". "Andalucía" will become the "Official Destination Partner" of LIV Golf Andalucía.

Valderrama ready to host the LIV GOLF tournament from 30th June to 2nd July

LIV Golf is a professionsal tour series started in 2022 as an invitational series and in 2023 is a fully fledged tour series. It is financed by the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia. Valderrama was one of the first tournaments to be announced back on the 30th November 2022 three venues were simultaneously announced. These were Real Club Valderrama (30 June-2 July), El Camaleón Golf Course at Mayakoba, Mexico (24-26 February), Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore (28-30 April). The Grange Golf Club in Adelaide (21-23 April) was previously announced. The 2023 tour comprises 14, three day 54 hole tournaments.

La Brisas confirmed for the Andalucía Costa del Sol, Spanish Ladies Open 2023

Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, Ladies tourament is confirmed for 2023 and will be played at RCG Las Brisas from the 23rd to 26th November 2023. The course was designed by the legendary course designer Robert Trent Jones Senior. Las Brisas in Marbella has been the venue for previous major tournaments. It hosted two editions of the World Cup and another two of the Spanish Open. The first World Cup in 1973 brought together Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Johnny Miller.
