Burofax

Burofax is a the Spanish equivalent of a special registered letter, requiring a delivery signature by the addressee. It is a service offered at post offices, and there is also an online sending version. Delivery is only to Spain.

There are also certificado (registered letters), however the difference is that a Burofax is delivered the same or next day as it is sent to the nearest post office of the adresses by a type of fax and then printed and delivered in person by the postman/woman who will require a signiture of the adressee.

Burofax are often used by Lawyers, is that the sender of a burofax will be given (if requested) a certificate of the contents of the letter. This is accepted in a court of law that the notification was set and received.

A Burofax sent form the post office costs 11.98€ for a single A4 page and plus 1.09 for aditional pages. The online sending version costs 8.22 for a single A4 page and plus 1.15 for aditional pages

The receipt of a registered letter only proves that "a" letter was sent and received.

Private delivery companies in Spain such SEUR also offer a Burofax servivce. Cost with certificate of delivery and content is 16.90€.

In August 2020 the global soccer world was sent into shockwaves when reports broke that Lionel Messi had informed Barcelona football club that he intended to opt out of his contract and leave the club. The football club confirmed that they did receive the Burofax. This lead to a spike in searches on the internet as to what was a Burofax.
