Sotogrande Music (Festival) - 1st July to 25th August 2023

The second edition of the Sotogrande Music Festival took place in the grounds of the Puerto Maria Polo Club, Los Pinos fields from 1 July until 15 September 2023, a musical extravaganza that presented artistes of diverse styles, ranging from more traditional music such as copla, or Spanish song, to energetic genres such as urban pop, rock and rap.

The festival offered concerts by high-ranking names such as Raul, Manuel Carrasco and Pastora Soler, along with top tribute acts honouring some of music’s most celebrated artistes. These included God Save the Queen, a tribute to Freddy Mercury and his mythical band Queen; This was Michael, a show that payed homage to the Michael Jackson legacy; and Mecano Experience, a tribute to Spanish techno-pop pioneers Mecano.

Antoñito Molina is the only artist confirmed so far for 2024; 6 July 2024 as part of his Adventure Tour.  Rumours are that the 2024 edition will be smaller and more exclusive.   The 15,000 crowd for Manuel Carrasco in 2023 surprised the organisers and led to two-hour queues on the A-7. Typical attendance is 3,000.

The 2022 edition of the festival attracted around 8,000 attendees over the seven concerts- Campo de Gibraltar organisers; Eternidad Eventos were correct in believing that the second edition would exceed these figures.

About the artists

Antoñito Molina

Born and raised in Rota, Cádiz (1989), Antonio Caballero Molina, known artistically as Antoñito Molina, is a singer who rose to stardom with his 2006 recording El tren de los sueños.

In 2010, he teamed up with the Sevillian singer, Mara, and the couple recorded three CDS, which turned them into the most popular Andalusian pop duo in Spain.

Since 2016, Antoñito Molina has concentrated on his solo career, and his popularity among the Spanish flamenco-pop fans is supported by around 250,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.

Ecos de Rocio
Ecos del Rocio are one of Spain’s most popular vocal quartets who began as group of school friends united by their love of sevillanas, the lively song and dance styles witnessed at ferias and fiestas all over Spain.

Formed in the early 1980s, the group began singing at the festivals in their hometown of Rota (Cádiz) with no other pretension than to enjoy singing and dancing, and they have gone on to enjoy a successful career due to the way in which they interpretate sevillanas. The four-piece group have earned their reputation not only for the exciting performances, but also because they compose their own music.

Ecos del Rocio have recorded 36 CDS, and they have been awarded 1 diamond, 14 gold and 2 platinum discs, clocking up more than 2 million record sales during their 40-year career.

Pablo López
Born in Fuengirola in 1984, Pablo López is a singer/composer and pianist who achieved national fame after coming second in the sixth edition of the Spanish reality music show, Operación Triunfo.

His music is categorised as melodic pop, although he has been classically trained and is competent in styles as diverse as chamber music to rock.

His musical career began at the age of 17, when he performed at hotels along the Costa del Sol, although he took time out and headed to London, where he enjoyed busking on the London Underground.

He has since recorded several albums, and was named ‘Best Breakthrough Artiste’ in 2013, as well being awarded ‘Song of the Year’ in 2016 for Tu Enemigo.

Pastora Soler
Born in Seville in 1978, Pilar Sánchez Luque, better known as Pastora Soler, began her artistic career at the age of eight singing copla and light flamenco. Today she is considered among the top singers in Spain, performing light flamenco infused pop with a fresh rhythmic feel, although she has ventured into other areas like Italian and Brazilian music.

Known as ‘the voice of Spain’, Pastora's first two recordings have a clear flamenco reference, although later works moved more towards pop and dance music, although with an underlying Andalusian feel.

She has collaborated on duos with celebrated Spanish performers like Rafael, Alejando Sanz and Miguel Poveda, and she has also collected several awards, including the Premio de la Música and the Micrófono de Oro.

In 2012, Pastora Soler represented Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest, and although she finished in tenth position, it was the best result Spain had received since 2004.

SFDK
SFDK – Straight From Da Kranny – is a Sevillian hip hop/rap group founded at the beginning of the 1990s whose name is a reference to the establishment where the members of the band met. The duo, who stand out for their sense of humour, along with their hardcore lyrics sung in Andalusian dialect, has recorded more than ten albums and are considered one of Spain’s most original, if not, occasionally, controversial hip hop bands. They are considered pioneers of what has become known as the Sevillian school of rap.

In 2020, SFDK received the prestigious Seville Medal for working as ambassadors of the city and defenders of it throughout the world.

Omar Montes
Omar Ismael Montes Moreno is a 35-year-old reggaeton singer and media personality from Madrid who rose to stardom following his appearances on reality shows such as Gran Hermano VIP and Supervivientes. He has received commercial success with many of his recordings, and in 2020, he was the most listened to Spanish singer on the Spotify platform

Ana Mena
Ana Mena is a pop, dance, soul and reggaeton singer, actress and model who was born in Estepona in 1997. She made her musical debut in 2016 with the song No soy como tú crees. Two years later, she achieved great popularity in Italy, which was to be the turning point in her career, becoming one of the most listened to Spanish artists of the streaming era.

In 2021, Ana Mena teamed up with the Italian rapper Rocco Hunt, whom she had collaborated with the previous year on a song that she sang in Italian. She followed this with another collaboration, this time with the young Italian pop singer Federico Rossi.

The singer claims that she loves Italy, a country that has had a huge influence on her music.

Raule
An independent musician composer and singer from Jerez de la Frontera, Raúle (Raúl Rubiale) fuses flamenco, light rock and funk music to create his distinctive Latin pop sound. He began singing in local groups in Jerez, although it was in 2017 when, after several years writing songs and sharing them on social networks, he released his first solo album, Sin Protocol, on which he collaborated with several established Spanish musicians. During the confinement in 2020, Raule used social media platforms to launch the single, La habitación prohibida, which has so far received over five million views.

The 39-year-old singer is currently in the middle of a tour of Spain, which will include a stop-off at the Sotogrande Music Festival.

Galvan Real
Oscar Espinosa Castillo, artistically known as Galvan Real, is a singer, composer and producer who was born in Valencia in 1992. He was influenced by flamenco during his early years, and at the age of eight, he took his first steps into what would become a career in music when he began to sing flamenco.

By the time he was 20, he had been completely engulfed by his passion for music and he began to compose and record his own songs, which have an urban flamenco feel. It was at this stage that he started to use his pseudonym, and he quickly began to attract a large fanbase on social media. He music is part of a new wave of urban music that mixes Latin and urban sounds without losing the flamenco essence, which is the root of Galvan Real’s style.

Manuel Carrasco
Manuel Carrasco (Huelva 1981) is a Spanish pop singer/composer and guitarist whose musical interest began to flourish as a child. He obtained his first guitar at the age of 14 and immediately began playing in a traditional local carnival band – agrupaciones.

His big break came after his appearance on the reality television show, Operación Triunfo, in 2002, and he has since become one of Spain’s most popular, and commercially successful, singers. He has recorded several studio albums, including his debut, Quiéreme, which sold more than 200,000 copies, and was followed by a sellout tour of 39 cities in Spain.

His popularity, and record sales, have continued to rise, and along with a lucrative recording and performing career, Manuel Carrasco is also a popular celebrity on Spanish television.

Ten summer concerts spread over July and August 2023 at the Los Pinos grounds of the Puerto Maria Polo Club, Los Pinos fields Tickets are all general entrance at one price in the range 20 to 50 euro each. Most concerts start after nightfall at 22.30 hrs.
