The Lionesses in Spain

Since 1993, the England women's national football team, known as the Lionesses, has been overseen by the Football Association (FA), taking over from the Women's Football Association (WFA). Their debut international match occurred in November 1972 against Scotland.

The team has participated in six FIFA Women's World Cup tournaments. Notably, in 2023, they reached their highest achievement, finishing as runners-up to Spain in the final. Additionally, England has been part of the UEFA Women's Nations League since its inception in the 2023-24 season.

In 2020, the FA struck a four-year agreement with Dutch manager Sarina Wiegman, marking her as the first permanent manager from outside Britain. Under Wiegman's leadership, England has been gearing up for upcoming international competitions in Andalucía. They recently competed against Austria and Italy at the ‘Estadio Nuevo Mirador’ in Algeciras, showcasing their status as one of the top teams in women's international football by defeating Austria 7-2 and Italy 5-1.
