Puerta de Úbeda
Puerto de Ubeda is undoubtedly the best fortified gate of this walled city, it was the one that led to the road to Úbeda. It used have three arches reaching across to the old ‘Albarrana tower’ but today only one arch remains. The the Albarrana tower and the walls were ordered to be destroyed by Queen Isabella in 1476 to end the disputes of the local nobility.
In the mid-twentieth century, a part of this tower was integrated into private homes. In the 80's, the homes became the property of the Town Hall and in the 90's restoration work began. In 2021 a 20th century property built adjacent to the tower was demolished.
The tower is built in masonry and is solid up to the height of the parapet wall. On one side there is a large, engraved coat of arms of the Catholic Monarchs.
